Community Health Councils' reaction to
Government's announcement on CHCs
Following the government's surprise decision to drop the clauses in the Health and Social Care Bill abolishing Community Health Councils (CHCs) Donna Covey, Director of the Association of Community Health Councils (ACHCEW), commented:
'The proposed abolition of Community Health Councils has caused concern
across the health community. We had hoped that the Lords amendment which
enjoyed cross party support would have provided a sensible way of delivering
the Government's reforms. However, the Government's announcement provides
an opportunity for reflection on this controversial issue.'
'We look forward to working constructively with the next government to
ensure that we get the best possible system for patients, building on
the experience and track record of CHCs in delivering for local communities.'
